Wellston City Schools kickoff event for the KnowHow2GoOhio Rural Pilot Project in Jackson County. Separate kickoff events are being held in each of Jackson County’s three school districts.
Kickoff event time: TBA
The OACHE and WSCC will host Charles Ramos of ACT to present an evening workshop entitled: Preparing Our Students for Post Secondary Success. Mr. Ramos will discuss the results of the ACT National Curriculum Survey and as well as the college readiness of the class of 2007 in Ohio.
The purpose of the National Curriculum Survey is to “define the gap between what middle and high school teachers are currently teaching and what college instructors believe is important for entering students to know.” Mr. Ramos’s presentation will focus on the results of the NCS and provide action steps to tackle problem areas of the high school curriculum. The second half of Mr. Ramos’s presentation will provide information about the performance of Ohio 2007 graduating seniors who took the ACT as sophomores, juniors, or seniors. Topic areas will include: academic achievement, measuring college readiness and early indicators of college readiness.
According to their website: “ACT is an independent, not-for-profit organization that provides more than a hundred assessment, research, information, and program management services in the broad areas of education and workforce development.”
This presentation is free and open to any interested area educators and educational professionals. Light refreshments will be served. For more information, or to pre-register for this event, please contact Amy Dennis at adennis@wscc.edu or 740-374-8716.

At this meeting you’ll learn how rural communities are inventing their own education solutions, how public policy affects rural education nationally and at the state level, and how place-based learning helps students contribute to community development while maintaining rigorous academic standards. You’ll meet people who are struggling to overcome public policies and negative attitudes that harm their schools and their children, people who are creating new responses to difficult challenges, people, who, like you, want to make a difference.
The cost for this event is $290 and covers six meals, double occupancy room, materials, and use of conference facilities. If you come as a team of three to six people, the cost drops to $275 per person, but everyone on the team must sign up at the same time. Single rooms cost an additional $55.00 per night. Transportation is on your own. We have very limited funds for scholarships.
